Guy Fawkes day is a British holiday that commemorates the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament in 1605. The plot was hatched by a group of Catholic dissidents led by Guy Fawkes. While it's celebrated as a holiday today, at the time it was considered an act of treason.
